I started to create this Zine collection while on a 6-week road trip throughout Alaska and Western Canada with my family. I needed a portable activity that I could take with me and work on at campsites. I didn’t have a plan other than to enjoy a creative activity with no end game in mind. I created a dozen-plus ‘sticker books,’ as I called them initially. Then I wrote stories for each of them. I enjoyed the stories but eventually knew they were not meant to go together. I never merged them. Going through my studio one day, as I prepared for a summer Residency, I discovered a collection of 1960s kid’s encyclopedias my father had given me before he passed away. I flipped through them, and the ah-ha moment hit! I would cut them up and use the vintage text to create new stories. This became the ‘yet to be complete’ Zine Encyclopedia Series.
